Separate Snowmobile Accidents Injure Two People

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Two people were injured in separate snowmobile accidents Saturday on West Lake Okoboji in front of the Central Emporium.

Both mishaps were the result of snowmobiles striking an ice heave throwing the drivers off the machines.

Gary Owen of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the first one took place shortly before 4:00 p.m. Owen says 45-year-old Julie Elgersma of Primghar was operating that snowmobile. She sustained a broken wrist and was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare.

The other mishap took place around 5:43 p.m. in the same location. Owen says the operator of that sled, 40-year-old Pamela Mankle of Okoboji, was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with a broken ankle.
