(Emmetsburg)– We continue to hear a lot on the international front about bird flu and how the deadly disease is being transferred to humans…primarily in southeast Asia. So far, the U.S. has escaped the disease, but officials warn it’s only a matter of time before it’s detected in birds here.
To get local healthcare providers ready, Rosemary Coleman of Iowa Lakes Community College says they’ll be offering a course on Avian Flu Thursday, February 8th at the Allied Health Building on the Emmetsburg campus of ILCC.
Coleman says the course will be presented by Cindy Peters of West Bend, a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree.
Coleman says the primary goal of the program is to clear up any mis-information that’s out there about bird flu and to talk about possible effects and how the local public health system would be impacted by a pandemic.
Pre-registration is requested by January 25th by calling 1-800-252-5664. Refer to course number 9932. The cost is 35-dollars per person, which includes materials and refreshments.
