(Arnolds Park)– Residents of Arnolds Park and Okoboji could be facing a watering ban during hot days next summer.
City Administrator Ron Walker told the Arnolds Park city council Wednesday Central Water, which provides water to Arnolds Park and Okoboji, is requesting authority to ban yard and garden watering during times of heavy demand. An ordinance to that effect is expected to come before the councils sometime in the near future.
Central Water’s treatment plant reached capacity several times last summer.
An engineering study that outlines several options to increase output of the plant is currently under review. Among the possible options is one for a combined treatment facility with Spirit Lake.
Central Water says the watering bans would help buy some time while they continue to look at various options.
