(Wahpeton)—One person was injured in a three-vehicle accident Friday on Highway 86 near the former Back Porch location in Wahpeton.
The Iowa State Patrol says 19-year-old Emilo Cuevas-Martinez of Lincoln, Nebraska was southbound on Highway 86 and was attempting to negotiate a curve at 190th Street when he lost control on the snow and slush-covered roadway. The vehicle slid into the northbound lane, colliding head-on with a vehicle driven by 55-year-old Shirley DeMuth of Milford. The driver of another vehicle that was behind DeMuth, 30-year-old Angela Hunt of Milford, tried to avoid colliding with DeMuth by steering into the southbound ditch, but she struck the driver side rear of DeMuth’s vehicle in the process.
DeMuth complained of a possible injury and was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare. No other injuries were reported.
2,500-dollars in damage was estimated to a 1993 Mercury van driven by Cuevas-Martinez; a 1998 Pontiac driven by DeMuth sustained an estimated two-thousand dollars in damage; and a 1991 Dodge driven by Hunt sustained an estimated five-hundred dollars in damage.
Cuevas-Martinez was charged with no driver’s license and failure to maintain control.
The mishap took place shortly before 8:00 a.m.
