(Worthington, Mn.)—Five people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday on Highway 60 about a mile north of the Iowa/Minnesota border.
The Minnesota State Patrol says 20-year-old Maycol Calderon-Gonzalez of Sheldon was southwest bound on Highway 60 when he suddenly decided to try to make a left-turn onto a county road. Authorities say 53-year-old Ila Johnson of Sheldon was also southwest bound, behind Calderon-Gonzalez, and was unable to stop. The front end of Johnson’s vehicle collided with the left side of the one driven by Calderon-Gonzalez.
Calderon-Gonzalez and Johnson were taken by ambulance to the Worthington hospital.
Three passengers in the vehicle driven by Calderon-Gonzalez were also taken by ambulance to Worthington Regional Hospital. They’re identified 19-year-old Florame Lorente Rivera, 21-year-old Efren Hernandez and 19-year-old Alejandro Belmont. All are from Worthington. Hernandez was hospitalized with possible broken ribs. The other injuries were described as either minor or non-incapacitating.
No injuries were reported to another passenger in Calderon-Gonzalez’s vehicle–one-year-old Emmanuel Lorente-Rivera…also of Worthington.
Both vehicles were totaled.
The crash took place shortly after Noon Friday.
