Fire Destroys Spirit Lake Home

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake home was destroyed by fire Sunday.

Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch tells KUOO news firefighters were called to 1507 Ithaca Avenue shortly after 1:00 p.m. and found the home completely engulfed upon arriving about four minutes after being dispatched.

Kollasch says three people were in the house at the time–two adults and an infant. They got out unharmed.

Kollasch says the house was being rented and the tennants were in the process of moving out. He says a female was leaving the residence and thought she smelled smoke. Upon investigating a male opened a bedroom door only to find flames and smoke.

Kollasch believes the fire started in a stairwell and spread quickly from there. A cause hadn’t been determined as of Sunday night. A representative of the State Fire Marshall’s Office was on the scene.

The home, owned by the Troyka Group, and its contents, are a total loss.

Spirit Lake firefighters were on the scene about four hours.

An ambulance and paramedics stood by on the scene, but no injuries were reported.
