(Undated)—Some regional housing programs have been awarded grants through the Iowa Finance Authority.
More than $5.4 million is being made available to 25 local housing trust funds to assist in affordable housing projects throughout the state.
Locally, the Clay County Local Housing Trust Fund, Incorporated will receive $46,667 to assist approximately 12 households through the financing of repairs and to rehabilitate owner-occupied housing stock.
The Lakes Community Land Trust, which serves Dickinson county, was awarded the same amount to assist an estimated 21 low-income households by buying down the cost of new or rehabilitated homes and to help local agencies provide affordable rental housing for persons receiving services under a Home and Community Based Services Medicaid Waiver. It will also assist extremely low-income households through non-profit organizations by providing housing to homeless persons or those with disabilities and to assist seniors and others on fixed incomes to make home repairs and handicapped accessibility improvements to their homes.
And the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund, which serves Buena Vista, Emmet, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Sioux counties, was awarded $271,707 to assist an estimated 40 low-income homeowners through the financing of needed repairs and rehabilitation of the region’s aging housing stock, including emergency repairs and lead-hazard reduction.
The State Housing Trust Fund was created by the Iowa Legislature in 2003. Since it’s inception, the Trust has provided $34.5 million in affordable housing assistance to more than 10,800 Iowa families and has leveraged another $139.5 million in other funds.
