Veterans Urged To Obtain New Licenses With Special Designation

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Effective today (Tues.), Iowa veterans can now request a special “veteran” designation be placed on their driver’s license or non-operator identification card.

Ann Miller of the Dickinson County Veteran’s Affairs Office tells KUOO news veterans will need to stop by her office as the first part of the process. And she says it’s important they keep on thing in particular in mind:…(click here for comment.) “It’s very important however that the veteran understands that they can only get the license when they renew. If they lose their license they will get a duplicate license that does not show the designation. It’s real important that atleast 30 days before they renew they come see me and we verify the form so that when they renew there’s no hassle whatsoever but it’s new today in the state of Iowa and every veteran needs a veterans designated driver’s license when they renew.”

The special designation was made possible by Senate File 212 that Governor Branstad signed into law on April 19th of last year.
