November 22, 2014 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux City)—A Spencer man has pled guilty to a drug charge in U.S. District Court.

26-year-old Gabriel Ginger entered the plea Wednesday to one count of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine.

Ginger admitted his involvement in a conspiracy from about 2010 through August 2011 that distributed more than 50 grams of pure methamphetamine. On July 21st, 2011, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Ginger’s residence, resulting in them seizing more than 10 grams of meth which Ginger planned to distribute to others.

Sentencing will be set once a pre-sentence report is prepared. Ginger in the meantime remains in the custody of a U.S. Marshal. He faces a minimum sentence of 5 years’ imprisonment, a $5 million dollar fine; a $100 special assessment and atleast 4 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement, the Spencer Police Department, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations.
