Whittemore Man Sentenced On Federal Drug Charges

(Sioux City)– A Whittemore man has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison after pleading guilty in federal court to drug charges.

33-year-old Matthew McCauley was sentenced Tuesday.

McCauley pleaded guilty back on September 17th of last year to conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.

According to court documents, McCauley was convicted in October 2008 of possession of a controlled substance…1st offense; and in April of 2003 of possession of a precursor with intent to manufacture methamphetamine…both in Iowa.

At a plea hearing, McCauley admitted to being involved from about December 2010 through about May 2012 with atleast 50 grams of pure methamphetamine and atleast 100 grams of pseudoephedrine for the manufacture of meth. On May 2nd, 2012, McCauley traded about a quarter of a gram of methamphetamine in exchange for 20 pseudoephedrine pills in an undercover operation with law enforcement. McCauley allegedly planned to use pseudoephedrine to manufacture methamphetamine.

In addition to the prison sentence, McCauley must also pay a special assessment of $100 and serve a five-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
