(Spirit Lake)– The city of Spirit Lake is looking to relocate a siren in it’s downtown area.
The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday deferred action on a request from the city of Spirit Lake to relocate the civil defense siren that’s currently behind city hall to an area next to the county’s communication’s tower south of the courthouse on 19th Street. Supervisors expressed some concern over that. Supervisor Paul Johnson expressed concerns over the two being close together, saying that if the tower should fall for some reason, that it would take the siren along with it. There was also concern over whether or not there would be an interference issue with the siren being that close to the county’s communications tower. The issues will be researched further.
Dwight Dohlman, the city’s Public Works Director, told the supervisors the city needs to relocate the siren for the city hall project. While that would be temporary, he said the city would like to see the siren permanently relocated. Dohlman said the city is looking at two other possible sites, including the municipal parking lot on Gary Avenue or at the police station. But he says the site near the county’s communication tower is their number one choice.
