(Spirit Lake)– A winter storm that started over the weekend has dumped more than an inch of rain on the Iowa Great Lakes.
As of this (Monday) morning, 1.33 inches of rain had fallen at the KUOO studios since it all started back on Saturday. Estherville reports 1.28 inches.
There were even reports of hail in some areas early Sunday when thunderstorms moved through.
The National Weather Service expects colder air to make it’s way into the area this (Mon.) afternoon, changing any leftover precipitation to snow. A brief period of freezing rain or drizzle is possible before the changover.
No major accumulations of snow are expected in our area.
It’s much different though, to the west, in South Dakota. Ice, heavy snow and strong wind have combined to make for a real mess on the roads in that area and power is out in a large part of east central South Dakota.
