(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and the Iowa Great Lakes Pheasants Forever chapter are looking for volunteers to help out with an event later this month at the newly acquired Arnolds Park Nature Area, near the Henderson Woods area and Lower Gar Lake. Joe Jayjack, External Affairs Director for the INHF, says they’ll be holding a work day on May 27th at the site from 8:00 am until 11:00 am…
“Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation partnered with hundreds of local folks in the community and other conservation organizations to protect this area, and will eventually be owned and managed by the city of Arnolds Park. In the meantime we have the opportunity to do some native habitat restoration. Getting rid of some invasive species, doing some brush clearing on site, and we could use some help. So we’ve got a volunteer event coming up on May 27th from 8:00 am until 11:00 am and anyone is welcome to come on out and help us out and kind of do some habitat restoration to get that site a little bit closer to being open to the public.”
Jayjack says volunteers there are some things volunteers for the event should keep in mind…
“Well we suggest folks bring a water bottle and wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt, and obviously sun and bug protection, anything you want; just be ready to work outdoors. We’ve got some great partnerships here including the Great Lakes Pheasants Forever Chapter, so we’re going to have a lot of folks that know what they’re doing. You don’t have to have any special expertise, just come ready to work.”
Jayjack says volunteers need to sign up in advance…
“It will help with parking and just knowing how many folks we need to be prepared for.”
You can register and find more information here.
He adds special arrangements will be made for parking with personnel on hand to guide people.
