(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources this (Tues.) afternoon released the identity of the man killed in that deadly boat collision Sunday on West Lake Okoboji, along with some additional details into the incident.
The DNR says 64-year-old Zhong Jie Teng of Sioux Falls died of injuries suffered in the collision. He was taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
DNR officials say Teng and five minors were boating near Lime Kiln Point on West Lake Okoboji, which is west/southwest of the Arnolds Park Amusement Park. The 19-foot Triton fishing boat they were in collided with a Cobalt cabin cruiser operated by 49-year-old Brian Rohlfsen of Spirit Lake. No one on the Cobalt was injured.
The names of the five minors that were in the fishing boat with Teng haven’t been released. They were taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake and Spencer Hospital. A press release from the DNR says the condition of the minors currently is not available.
As reported previously, investigators say alcohol has been eliminated as a contributing factor in the accident, which is still under investigation.
The collision happened around 1:00 pm Sunday.
