U of O Winter Games Cheerleaders Announced (1)

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Cheerleaders for this year’s University of Okoboji Winter Games have been announced. They include:

Dr. Steven Baskerville: The tireless enthusiasm shown by Dr. Steve Baskerville has a positive impact on his family, his patients and all those with whom he comes in contact. As a community leader in the Lakes area, Dr. Steve Baskerville is involved in the Relay for Life, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and Special Youth Challenge Ministries. Dr. Baskerville is a great example of a Winter Games Cheerleader.

Dr. Randy Cornwall: Randy truly embodies the Okoboji Spirit. He served as the Chair of the 2005 University of Okoboji Winter Games, is past Rotary president and is involved in many other community activities. Randy and his wife Stacey chose to raise their family in the Iowa Great Lakes, where he also has his practice. Randy’s love for Okoboji comes through in his ever-present smile and his willingness to help those around him.

Tim Horsman: Tim has been an entertainer in the Lakes Area for many years, bringing music and fun to all. As a member of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, he promotes the area when he’s on the road in a three state region. Tim is an enthusiastic and colorful cheerleader.

Mary Kennedy: Mary Kennedy’s quiet demeanor is not to be confused with her spark plug personality. Mary was instrumental in the campaign to build the Queen II and her efforts include the creation and expansion of the Maritime Museum. She has always been graciously willing to volunteer hours and her own resources for the success of the Okoboji Spirit Center. Mary’s passion is working to preserve the historical integrity of the Iowa Great Lakes.

Bill Maas: As a former educator, Bill Maas continues to educate those he comes in contact with as an employee of the Department of Natural Resources. Bill’s concern for the water safety of residents and guests to the area is evident in his work. His bright and smiling face and winning personality provide the qualities of a great Winter Games Cheerleader!

Greg Richards: Greg Richards is a positive and fun cheerleader who loves Okoboji. He’s a loyal Rotarian, organizes Polaris’s Victory Rally each year and volunteers in many other areas of the community as well. Greg has also helped with the Winter Games for the past 13 years. Greg Richards is a prime example of what it takes to be a University of Okoboji Winter Games Cheerleader.

Tom Tourville: Tom has brought excitement and variety to the Pearson Lakes Art Center. His enthusiasm for the Lakes area and desire to improve the quality of life through the arts has had a positive impact on the area. Tom is a vibrant and expressive representative for the Iowa Great Lakes.

Gary Zeman: Gary’s generous commitment to the area is obvious, based on his years of volunteer activities. As a former Eagle Scout, Gary moved into a leadership role for Spirit Lake Scouting, which he has maintained for years. He also dedicates hours at Okoboji Lutheran Lakeside Camp, organizing, improving and development planning. Gary is the program manager at Echo-Plus in Spirit Lake, running day-to-day operations and always accommodates the special needs of his special clients.

The cheerleaders will preside over the various winter games activities and will be officially introduced to the public at the fireworks extravaganza Saturday, January 26th at 6:30 p.m. at Preservation Plaza (the green space) at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park.

The University of Okoboji Winter Games will be held January 25th through the 27th.
