(Spirit Lake)– It’s a request all too familiar for Spirit Lake residents following rain events: “Please refrain from using water as much as possible”.
The city’s Water Department issued that call again today (Friday) due to rain that fell overnight. Slightly more than two inches fell in Spirit Lake.
Dean Dodds of the city’s Water Department says they’ve had several reports of sewer back-ups and even some cases of water coming up through manholes.
Residents are being asked to refrain from using water as much as possible today (Friday) to give the sewer system a chance to catch up.
Residents are also requested to make sure their sump pumps are NOT hooked into the sanitary system.
Meanwhile, much heavier amounts of rain fell just to the north of the Iowa Great Lakes. More than three inches was reported in many areas of southwest Minnesota. That has officials concerned over the possibility of renewed flooding along the West Fork of the Des Moines River, the Little Sioux River and the Rock River near Rock Rapids.Copyright GCI all rights reserved.
