Traffic Stop Results In Multiple Charges Against Omaha Man

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)—A weekend traffic stop in Clay county has landed an Omaha man in jail on multiple charges.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy pulled over a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Michael Markey of Omaha around 3:30 a.m. Friday in the 3200 block of Highway 71 after getting a report of a vehicle possibly being operated by an intoxicated person.

A deputy and a Spencer police officer also saw the vehicle run a stop sign and started to head south in the northbound lanes when they attempted to stop it. The vehicle then went through a median before coming to a stop.

Upon investigating authorities determined Markey was drunk.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in authorities finding what’s alleged to be drug paraphernalia in the back seat.

Markey was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated…first offense; possession of a controlled substance…marijuana due to some marijuana still in the paraphernalia; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Several traffic charges including reckless driving, failure to obey a stop sign and driving the wrong way on a one-way highway were also filed against Markey.
He was booked into the Clay county jail.
