(Spencer)– A traffic stop and subsequent foot pursuit by Clay county deputies ended with a Spencer man going to jail on several criminal charges.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it started around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of Fifth Avenue East where deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Jerry Mosley of Spencer.
Authorities say Mosley pulled into a residential parking lot, got out of the vehicle, and led officers on a short foot pursuit before being apprehended in the 600 block of East 19th Street.
Prior to Mosley’s arrest, authorities observed him throw a plastic baggie onto the roof of a nearby apartment building.
Mosley was secured and the Spencer Fire Department was called to retrieve the baggie. Authorities say it contained a white substance believed to be cocaine.
Mosley was booked into the Clay county jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver cocaine; failure to affix a drug tax stamp; driving while barred; and interference with official acts, which was enhanced because the act injured officers.
Mosley is being held in the Clay county jail on 50-thousand dollars bond.
His car was seized and authorities say forfeiture proceedings could be initiated.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spencer Fire and Spencer Police Departments and the Iowa Adult Probation and Parole Office.
Authorities say the incident remains under investigation and additional arrests are expected.
