(Arnolds Park)– The 4th of July holiday weekend was a busy one for Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue personnel.
The department says it responded to 15 medical calls and came in contact with 22 patients. Four responses involved the fire boat for medical emergencies on the water.
The department was also on standby for four events including three concerts at Arnolds Park along with an EMS crew on personal water craft for the Lake Affect concert.
APO Fire/Rescue also responded to two residential fire alarms, two fires stemming from fireworks debris; and three dumpster fires stemming from the improper disposal of fireworks. Chief Chris Yungbluth says one of those is suspicious and is still under investigation.
The department also responded to a small plane that went down Saturday in a grassy field west of Kenue Park and the Dickinson County Nature Center. As we reported previously the pilot, who was the only person on board, walked away from the scene uninjured. Authorities say the plane sustained a mechanical malfunction shortly after taking off from the Spirit Lake Airport.
