(Worthington, Mn.)– Hundreds of hogs waited in the heat while the kill floor at JBS Swift and Company in Worthington was temporarily shut down earlier this week.
A representative from the U.S. Department of Agriculture says that Swift was shut down for about 14 hours because of a humane handling violation.
The USDA reinstated its inspection services at the plant at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Truckers were angry and frustrated about their shipments of hogs having to wait in the 90-degree heat. Several Swift employees drove around with a water tank, using a hose to spray water on the hogs to try to keep them cool.
Swift officials declined comment.
