For the first time since 2007, the Spencer football defeated Emmetsburg and did so in convincing fashion 44 – 21. Emmetsburg started off the game with a 3 play 80 yard touchdown drive that took 1 min and was capped off by a 74 yard run by Allen Jensen for the score. On the ensuing kickoff, Spencer would go the distance a little over 2 minutes of clock. It was Matt Finnern to Malik Rasch on a 57 yard touchdown reception that got Spencer up 7-6 and they would never look back. Spencer would score 37 unanswered points. 11 different players had at least 1 carry for Spencer and the Tigers totaled 342 yards of offense compared to 269 for Emmetsburg. The E’hawks was led by Allen Jensen and his 179 yards and 3 scores.
Spencer improves to 1 – 0 and will host Sheldon on Friday, while Emmetsburg falls to 0 – 1 and will travel to Boyden Hull/Rock Valley on Friday.
