Some Students In The Okoboji High School Fine Arts Program Are Getting Special Recognition

May 20, 2026

(Milford)– Some students in the fine arts program at Okoboji High School are getting some special recognition. Jo Gehrke of Okoboji Fine Arts tells KUOO news four students are being recognized for their roles in a production this past November…

“All of our cast for the musical, Shrek The Musical that we did this November were involved in adjudication through the Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards and we had four students that were selected to audition for Triple Threat, which is a pretty prestigious award for high school students in musical theatre where they can go and audition and if they are chosen to be in the Triple Threat, potentially win a trip to go to New York and work with choreographers and directors and people in the professional field of theatre and learn a little bit more about it.”

She goes on to tell us who those four students are…

“We have two seniors, Asher Knudtson who played Donkey in our Shrek, The Musical; and Aidan Gehrke who played Shrek in our Shrek, The Musical. We also had two juniors, Declan Donovan who played Lord Farquaad and we had Anna Quanbeck who played Pinocchio. And all of them did, honestly all of the kids did a phenomenal job, but those four were selected with the different things that they did with the show to go down to Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards.”

Gehrke adds it’s a pretty prestigious recognition…

“They only choose kind of the best of the best and so those kiddos that are given that opportunity to be a part of that, it’s a pretty big deal.”

The students will be recognized and clips from their production will be highlighted during a year-end Awards Showcase May 28th in Des Moines.
