Some Heavily Traveled Roads In The Iowa Great Lakes Will Close To Traffic Starting This Week For Various Projects

May 11, 2026

(Undated)– A reminder of a closure that goes into effect today (Mon.) on a heavily traveled road on the northeast side of Milford. 28th Street will be closed from just east of Highway 71 beginning today (Mon.) and continuing for the next month or so. The closure is to accommodate a project by the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District which is installing larger capacity lines into its wastewater treatment facility located in that same area.

Officials say access to the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa, which is also located in that area, will be maintained while the work is going on. Others, however, will have to take alternate routes. That could be a challenge for some residents as another heavily traveled road in that same area, at the Lower Gar Outlet, is also closed for a bridge construction project.

Also, those looking to access the south shore of Big Spirit Lake will need to take an alternate route starting later this week. City officials in Orleans say the intersection of Hill Avenue and 140th Street at the pumphouse will be closed to traffic starting this Wednesday, May 13th. That closure is also expected to remain in place for about a month.
