(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake School District’s central office is moving.
Superintendent Doug Latham told the school board Monday the move is slated to take place next week.
He says moving the offices from what’s known as the Illsley Building into the high school will save the district an estimated 40,000-45,000 dollars a year.
Latham says the future of the Illsley Building is somewhat uncertain as of now. The district plans to advertise it for rent and see what kind of response they get.
In other business, the school board Monday adopted student registration fees for the upcoming school year. They reflect a six dollar increase in book rental for all grade levels, along with increases in insurance.
And some changes could be coming to the district’s open gym program. Latham told the board the district is short on custodial help right by two full-time equivalents, adding the open gym program is costing the district money, along with causing concern over liability. He says several options are being considered including limiting the hours of open gym and/or charging a user fee. Latham said he’ll put together a recommendation for the board to consider at its August meeting.
