(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday stopped short of formally endorsing results from a community visioning process held last fall as part of the process of updating the city’s long-term comprehensive use plan.
The initiative, titled New Spirit of 2022…A Vision For The Future, was conducted by the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission and the University of Northern Iowa’s Institute for Decision Making, or IDM.
IDM spokesperson Ladeen Bowen told the council the next step is implementation of the various goals identified in the plan. Most are centered on the environment, along with infrastructure, economic development, and other issues.
When it comes to implementation, Pat McNorton of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission told the council it’s going to involve a broad cross-section of the community. He says they’ll be asking for help from various individuals and organizations.
The city council decided to hold off on endorsing the initiative saying they want more time to review it. They also want to give the public an opportunity to review and comment on it. The initiative will be posted on the city’s website in upcoming days at www.cityofspiritlake.org.
