(Spirit Lake)– A March 28th special election in Spirit Lake is now officially off.
The city council Tuesday voted unanimously in favor of a resolution rescinding the election. Voters would have been asked to approve a proposal that would change how proceeds from the Local Option Sales Tax are allocated. City Attorney Earl Maahs explained that doing that would make the secial election mute, since the city would no longer be able to change how that money is to be used, as it would already be allocated.
The special election had already been scheduled by the county’s Commissioner of elections. Ballots had also been printed.
