(Spirit Lake)– Severe thunderstorms that raked the region Tuesday evening packed high wind and dumped more than four inches of rain on the area.
Street flooding was reported on Highway 71 between Spirit Lake and Arnolds Park and in Spirit Lake proper. Water was up to car doors in places.
4.06 inches of rain fell Tuesday, with about three inches of that coming in less than two hours.
The storms also produced damaging winds. A 52 mile-per-hour gust was recorded at the KUOO studios. A gust of 85 miles-per-hour was reported south of Jackson, flattening some corn fields. Some crop damage was also reported in southern Dickinson county, south of Milford.
