Rescue Crews Remind Homeowners To Properly Display House Numbers

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– A reminder for homeowners: make sure your house numbers are properly displayed so they can be easily seen by emergency crews.

Officials with local fire departments say it’s very difficult if not even impossible to locate some lakes area homes because they either don’t have numbers prominently displayed or not at all.

Okoboji City Administrator Dennis Daly says that city requires contrasting numbers atleast two and-a-half inches tall. Daly says it’s likely the Okoboji city council will be considering some new guidelines for house numbering sometime in the future.

On another note, the city of Okoboji has adopted a tag system for getting rid of things such as old appliances and furniture. Daly says the city was forced to take the action, as it was becoming a dumping ground by people in neighboring towns that already had the tag system in place.
