Rear-End Collision Sends One Person To The Hospital

(Spencer)– A rear-end collision Wednesday morning in a construction zone on Highway 71 north of Sioux Rapids sent one person to the hospital.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 24-year-old Hunter Wilson of Sioux Falls was driving a 2026 Kia Sportage southbound when he failed to slow for a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado that had stopped for a red light at a bridge construction site.

Wilson was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital with minor injuries. No injuries were reported to the driver of the pickup.

Wilson was later cited for failure to stop in an assurred, clear distance. The vehicle he was driving was totaled; the pickup sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage.

The collision took place a little after 5:30 am. The Sioux Rapids Fire Department and Spencer Ambulance assisted on the scene.
