Problems Surface With New Courthouse

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Construction on the first phase of Dickinson county’s new courthouse has been substantially complete for some time now, but crews are still working out some bugs.

The board of supervisors and officials with RDG of Des Moines, the architectural firm that drew up plans for the new courthouse, met last Friday to tour the facility, looking at troublespots. They include a problem with uneven texturing of a ceiling in an auxiliary courtroom; moisture in a temporary wall; water leaking into a room in the basement that houses the county’s 911 computer systems; and a problem of roof gutters not draining properly…to name a few.

It was reported the general contractor on the project is working to correct several of the problems.

Supervisors say it’s imperative the issues be fixed before construction starts on phase two. That’s expected to start next month, once demolition of the old courthouse is complete.
