(Primghar)– A Primghar church sustained roughly 500-thousand dollars in damage in a weekend fire.
The Primghar Fire Department was called to the United Church of Primghar just after 11:00 p.m. Saturday. Upon arriving they found heavy smoke pouring from the structure.
Once inside, firefighters located a fire in the main body of the church, with heavy smoke throughout the entire building. It took firefighters nearly three hours to extinguish the blaze.
An investigation determined the fire started when a candle near the alter table ignited some combustibles. The cause has been ruled accidental.
Primghar firefighters were assisted by the Archer and Paullina Fire Departments, the Primghar ambulance and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
No injuries were reported.
