Pocahontas County Authorities Release Details Into High Speed Pursuit

May 28, 2026

(Pocahontas)– Authorities in Pocahontas county have released details into a high speed pursuit May 18th.

It began a little after 11:00 am that morning when a deputy located 43-year-old Jonathan Meier of Omaha at a farm place south of Laurens. Meier was wanted for questioning in a May 10th burglary and theft. Deputies say he fled the scene in a pickup, driving through a field, refusing to stop. Deputies pursued him through Laurens. Authorities say Meier then drove onto some railroad tracks for about two blocks and that he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to exit them. The pickup rolled, ejecting Meier. He was taken to a local hospital.

The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office says criminal charges and traffic violations are pending.
