(Ruthven)—The Palo Alto County Conservation Foundation is the recipient of a 630-dollar award from the Western Iowa Tourism Region.
The grant was awarded in cooperation with the Iowa Tourism Office, Iowa Department of Economic Development.
Officials with the Palo Alto County Conservation Foundation say the funds will allow them to put on programs of regional interest at the Lost Island Nature Center near Ruthven. A couple of those are coming up in the next few weeks.
One, titled “How to Make a Rain Barrel”, is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 28th. Another, a bus tour of various environmentally friendly projects throughout the region, is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Saturday August 9th. The day-long tour includes stops in Spencer and the Iowa Great Lakes.
The program, sponsored by the Iowa Lakes RC & D, Clay, O’Brien and Palo Alto County Conservation Boards, is free of charge. Call (712) 837-4866 to reserve a seat on the bus. Deadline for reservations is August 4th.
In addition, the Western Iowa Tourism Region and Iowa Group Travel Association will hold hold a meeting at the Lost Island Prairie Wetland Nature Center north of Ruthven on Wednesday, July 30th. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m. with the meeting starting at 10:15 a.m. A lunch will be catered. Guest speaker will be Michael Hovda, President of InsideOutLeadership. He’ll be talking about communication blunders.
