Osceola Co. Sheriff Hopes New Technology Will Encourage More Young People To Report Crimes

November 22, 2014

(Sibley)– Authorities in Osceola county are hoping a new high-tech system will encourage more young people to report crime.

Sheriff Doug Weber says his department has implemented a new system that allows it to anonymously receive tips via text messaging.

Weber says the internet-based system routes messages through a serger that encryps cell phone numbers before they get to authorities, resulting in complete anonymity to the person submitting the tip.

The internet company, Texas-based Anderson Software, reports the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is the first in Iowa to utilize the technology.
