(Undated)– Thunderstorms throughout the region so far today (Sunday) have been posing a threat of flash flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the region, including the Iowa Great Lakes, until 10:00 pm this (Sunday) evening.
A flash flood WARNING is in effect for portions of Lyon and Osceola counties in northwest Iowa and Nobles county in southwest Minnesota. Nearly 4 inches of rain fell in some of those areas earlier today. It continues until 4:00 pm this (Sunday) afternoon.
A flash flood WARNING is also in effect for portions of Emmet and Palo Alto counties until 6:00 pm this (Sunday) evening.
A flash flood WARNING is in effect for a portion of Cherokee county until 6:15 pm this (Sunday) evening.
Those living along area rivers, streams, low lying locations and poorly drained areas are urged to be vigilant through the rest of the day today (Sunday) and into the evening for the possibility of rapidly rising water and flash flooding.
Authorities say if you come across standing water on roads, do not attempt to drive through it. Instead, they say you should turn around and find an alternate route.
The inclement weather is also forcing some changes at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park. A post on the park’s Facebook page says the concert scheduled for this (Sunday) evening on Preservation Plaza has been canceled, and the park is closed the rest of the day.
