Okoboji Council Opts Not To Get Involved In Access Dispute

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– Acting on advice from the City Attorney, the Okoboji city council Tuesday decided the city shouldn’t get in the middle of a dispute involving so-called “promenade” accesses to various properties on Fairfield Street. City Attorney Mike Chozen says it’s a civil matter that should be resolved between private property owners.

The council approved a proposal to give 100-dollars a month over the next three years to Discovery House; tabled action on filling a vacancy on the city’s Board of Adjustment; and they took no action on quotes for paving Brooks Lane, saying the prices they received are too high. They directed city staff to look at other possible options.

The council also decided to appeal a recent ruling from the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division which awarded a class “C” carry-out license for Okoboji Boats. It’s the latest salvo in the ongoing legal battles between the city and business owner Butch Parks.
