(Spirit Lake)– A 911 call early this (Monday) morning led to a stand-off and resulted in authorities confiscating a number of firearms, some of them high-powered, from a Spirit Lake residence. A man who lives there has been arrested on numerous charges in connection with the incident.
Spirit Lake police say officers were called to 1207 Jackson Avenue around 2:00 a.m. after the Dickinson County Communications Center received a 911 hang-up call from that location.
Upon arriving the complainant told authorities there was a domestic situation going on and that 30-year-old Justin James Woodall had taken his six-year-old child to the basement with him.
Officers made contact with Woodall and determined he had not threatened the child. However, they noticed Woodall was armed with a rifle and a 40 caliber handgun.
A stand-off ensued between Woodall and officers for about 30 minutes. Authorities safely removed two other children who were in the residence, along with the complainant.
Officers were eventually able to defuse the situation and Woodall was taken into custody without incident.
No injuries were reported to the children or Woodall, but minor injuries were allegedly inflicted to the complainant by Woodall.
Woodall was booked into the Dickinson county jail on charges of domestic assault and child endangerment…both aggravated misdemeanors; interference with official acts…a class “D” felony; and obstruction of emergency communication…a simple misdemeanor. Bond was set at nine thousand dollars.
Police seized 11 firearms…some of them said to be high-powered…and about 800 rounds of ammunition from the residence.
Spirit Lake police were assisted by the Okoboji, Arnolds Park and Milford Police Departments and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
