A Sioux Falls motorcyclist was arrested in the Iowa Lakes yesterday after trying to elude Spirit Lake police. Authorities report stopping 21 year old Tyler Michael Gerritsen for a traffic violation about 4:40 yesterday afternoon along highway 71 South. After stopping for the officer, Gerritsen took off and turned West onto Sanborn Avenue until he failed to negotiate the curb at Furlam Street and Lakshore Drive. Gerritsen collided with a wooden sign but was not seriously injured.
He was charged with eluding a police officer, 1st offense OWI, Reckless Driving, and failure to have a valid driver’s license.
Spirit Lake police were assisted at the scene by Okoboji and Arnolds Park police, Dickinson County sheriff’s department, Arnolds Park Fire and Rescue, and Lakes Regional Healtcare Ambulance
