(Milford)– A weekend motorcycle crash has claimed the life of an Estherville man.
The Iowa State Patrol says 55-year-old Ronald Peterson of Estherville was eastbound on Dickinson County Road A-43 three and-a-half miles east of Highway 71 when he crossed the centerline and went into the north ditch. The 2000 Yamaha motorcycle Peterson was driving struck two field stones and overturned.
Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials believe the crash took place either late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
Peterson had been reported missing since about 11:30 p.m. Friday by Spencer police. He was to have been traveling to work from Spencer to Estherville. Authorities had his usual route of travel.
The Iowa State Patrol sent a plane up and a ground search of the route was conducted as well. A State Patrol Pilot discovered the crash scene from the air shortly before 7:00 p.m. last (Sunday) evening.
Four thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the motorcycle.
