November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A traffic stop and search of a motel room has resulted in drug charges against a Spirit Lake man.

Spirit Lake police say it started around 6:20 p.m. Friday when an officer pulled a vehicle over in the Shamrock Inn parking lot for a traffic violation. The department’s K-9, Zeke, conducted a search of the vehicle, which turned up nothing illegal. However the dog did give a positive indication of an illegal narcotic on a motel room door in front of the vehicle. Police obtained a warrant to search the room shortly after 10:00 p.m. Officers found several pieces of drug paraphernalia, a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and a white powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine. They also found a shot gun and a loaded handgun in the motel room, which was being rented by Cory Wayne Morrow. Morrow was present during the search. He was arrested and booked into the Dickinson county jail. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance…methamphetamine…a class “C” felony; possession of a controlled substance…marijuana…a serious misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia…a simple misdemeanor. Authorities say additional charges are possible.
