(Milford)– An early morning house fire in Milford has sent one person to the hospital.
Milford Fire Chief Gayle Clark says firefighters were called to the Russ DeLong residence at 1607 Okoboji Avenue around 1:15 a.m. this (Tues.) morning. Upon arriving Clark says firefighters encountered a lot of smoke and fire coming from a bedroom on the northwest side of the home. Firefighters quickly knocked the blaze down, but there was considerable fire damage to the bedroom and smoke and heat damage to the rest of the house.
Clark says DeLong was awakened by the fire which started on the bed and tried unsuccessfully to put it out. He then went to a neighbors house and called 911. DeLong was then taken by private vehicle to Spencer Hospital with unknown injuries.
Clark says a representative of the State Fire Marshall’s Office determined the cause was in a cord to an electric blanket or pump to an air bed.
Milford firefighters were on the scene about three hours.
