November 22, 2014

(Undated)– U-S Senator Tom Harkin says some local school districts have been awarded funding to repair, modernize and build new schools.

Clay Central-Everly, Emmetsburg, Estherville-Lincoln Central, South Clay, Storm Lake and West Bend-Mallard have been awarded fire safety grants. The money is to be used to remedy fire code violations. Clay Central-Everly will get 16-thousand dollars; Emmetsburg 25-thousand; Estherville-Lincoln Central 100-thousand; South Clay will get 24,500-dollars; Storm Lake 46-thousand; and West Ben-Mallard will receive 18-thousand dollars.

The George-Little Rock and Rock Valley school districts were awarded funding through the Iowa Demonstration Grant Program. Each will receive 500-thousand dollars. The construction grants require a 75 percent local match.

111 Iowa school districts were awarded 5.2 million dollars in fire safety grants while 25 school districts were awarded 10.1 million for construction and rennovation projects.
