(Des Moines)– Some local retailers are getting some financial help to install E-85 gas pumps.
Officials have announced grants totalling 300-thousand dollars to 13 retailers to help pay for the tanks for the fuel blended with 85 percent ethanol.
Monte Shaw of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association says the response to the E-85 pumps has been overwhelming.
The grants are from a program approved by the legislature this year to spend 13 million dollars over three years to install the tanks. The goal is to have 25 percent of the fuel used in the state to come from renewable sources by 2020.
Local retailers that have been awarded grants include the Farmer’s Coop Elevator in Graettinger and Riverside Sinclair in Estherville.
