Local Attorney Reprimanded

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Iowa Supreme Court’s Disciplinary Board has suspended the license of a local attorney.

Kay Dull of Spirit Lake had been accused of appearing in court after drinking, driving under the influence of alcohol and not completing work on behalf of clients.

In its ruling, the high court sited several incidents of alleged improprities, adding Dull violated numerous provisions of the “Iowa Code of Professional Responsibility for Lawyers”.

The suspension is in effect for two years.

In a response prior to the ruling issued last Friday, Dull told the court she hadn’t consumed alcohol for nine months and had completed an in-patient treatment program and is attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. She added she’s been diagnosed with a liver disease and is awaiting a transplant. Dull told the court symptoms of the disease have caused problems with confusion, lack of memory and fatigue.

Dull also indicated she didn’t plan to practice law anymore in Iowa.
