(Ames)– Some local airports are being awarded funding for various projects through the Federal Transportation Appropriations Bill.
Locally, Algona will receive 229-thousand dollars to install various navigational aids and to construct a building for snow removal equipment; Emmetsburg was awarded 742-thousand dollars to rehabilitate a runway; the Estherville Airport will receive nearly 64-thousand dollars to rehabilitate a taxiway; and the Iowa Great Lakes Regional Airport in Spencer was awarded slightly more than 344-thousand dollars to purchase new snow removal equipment, expand a building and to update its master plan.
All total, Iowa airports were awarded 53 million dollars in Airport Improvement Program grants. 77 of Iowa’s 111 publicly owned airports are eligible for federal funding.
