(Spirit Lake)– Frustration over the leaky roof of Dickinson county’s new courthouse isn’t sitting well with the board of supervisors.
The issue came up again at Tuesday’s meeting when the county’s owner-representative on the courthouse project presented his weekly report.
Roger Gilbert told supervisors he has visited with the general contractor regarding the problem, who responded by saying the leak only happens when it rains extremely hard and the wind blows.
Meanwhile, there’s plenty of finger-pointing going on over who’s responsible. Gilbert says the General Contractor is siting design flaws as the cause.
The whole thing isn’t sitting well with supervisors. Wayne Northey told Gilbert it’s imperative the leaky roof be fixed before winter. Fellow supervisor Marti Allen was a little more outspoken, saying “We’re not paying the architect to design a roof that leaks, I’ll tell you that, and we’re not paying the contractor to build a roof that leaks. I agree with Wayne-it’s got to be fixed.”
A meeting betweent he general contractor and architect to discuss the leaky roof had been scheduled for last week but was scrapped at the last minute. Allen said she’s put out by that as well. That meeting is now scheduled for August 24th.
