Kids Find Armadillo Near Round Lake

November 22, 2014

(Round Lake, Mn.)– Worthington children who came across a hairy animal near Round Lake, Minnesota knew that it wasn’t an oppossum despite parental skepticism.

They recognized the animal their dog had cornered as an armadillo, an animal common in the south that has a reptilian tail and hard body armor.

The boys quickly got a tote bag and a video camera, picked up the animal by the tail, put it inside the bag and put it in a wagon–all the while rolling the videotape.

The armadillo grunted and clawed before leaping out and scurrying into an area of taller grass for cover.

The dog chased the armadillo across the street and into a wildlife refuge. It hasn’t been seen since.

11-year-old Kyle Wendland figures the armadillo was somebody’s pet and they let it go–or, maybe it was a stowaway from hurricane Katrina.
