(Spirit Lake)– A judge in the Dwayne Boyd case has relaxed his previous ruling restricting media coverage in Boyd’s upcoming trial in Dickinson County District Court.
Boyd has been charged with four counts of knowingly transmitting the virus that causes AIDS. He’s scheduled to go on trial on one of the counts this coming Tuesday, November 29th.
Judge David Lester in October issued a ruling that barred the media from photographing, videotaping or interviewing alleged victims. A motion was filed by Kathleen Richardson, Central Coordinator for Expanded Media Coverage, requesting the Judge reconsider his order.
In his new ruling, Judge Lester says cooperation among the media with the restrictions on photographing or videotaping alleged victims outside the courthouse and in releasing their names is voluntary.
As a footnote, KUOO News will continue to honor its policy of not identifying victims of such crimes.
