Jackson County Crash Claims Orange City Man

(Jackson, Mn.)– A single-vehicle crash over the weekend in Jackson county claimed the life of an Orange City man.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 46-year-old Martin Cortez of Orange City was driving a 1996 Ford Ranger eastbound on Highway 60 at the junction with Highway 86 when he lost control. The vehicle left the road and rolled. Cortez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected.

Cortez was taken by ambulance to the Windom Hospital and was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with severe head injuries. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

A passenger in the vehicle, 30-year-old Julia Carzenas-Ruvalzava of Orange City was taken to the Windom Hospital where she was treated and released.

The mishap took place shortly before 9:20 a.m. Sunday.
