(Jackson, Mn.)– The Jackson County Courthouse is being illuminated in purple through the month of September in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
County officials say it’s also intended to show support for individuals and families affected by suicide loss. They add Jackson County’s suicide rate is higher than the statewide average in Minnesota and is double the rate in the Twin Cities.
The second annual Out of the Darkness Walk will be held Saturday, September 26th at Ashley Park in Jackson from 10:00 am until 12 Noon.
Anyone experiencing a mental health crisis or thoughts of suicide can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The 24/7 service is free and confidential.
